The Isralelian state firm I.M.I, known for its "Uzi" submachine-gun and its "Galil" riffle, started teh production of handguns in 1983. The company used a lot of novel solutions and designed gun with powerful ammunitions.

The Eagle is born in 1983 for the powrful .357 Magnum bullet, this caliber was at this time only use with revolvers. A little bit too big for those who are not used to, the Eagle seems to be hard to handle with one hand. Designed to defend in outer places and for medium distance firing (its scope is about 200 m instead of 60 m for the "Uzi Pistol"). Its weight is significant (~2 kg / ~4 pounds) and it has huge dimensions. The frame can be in steel or in light alloy, the standard cannon is 6 inches long but a 10 inches cannnon can be used. The steel gun finishing is treated with phosphates and coated with Teflon, while the light alloy gun is sand blasted and anodized. In 1985, this gun was renamed "Desert Eagle" and realized in stainless steel with sand blasted finishing in .44 Magnum caliber. In this case, it used the "Rimmed" ammunition usually reserved for revolvers. The two models have little différencies, like the foresight shape and the spur hammer. Used by the Israelian police department, it is the gun with the most powerful stop capability. Its empty weight in the steel version is 1760 g (~3.9 pounds), in the light alloy version it is only 1474 g (~3.2 pounds). The .50 AE claiber version weigh 1998 g (~4.4 pounds). The magazine can carry 9 bullets in .357 Magnum caliber, 8 bullets in .44 Magnum caliber and 7 bullets in the .50 Action Express caliber.
